The Real Meaning of Christmas

Merry Christmas Greeting

Christmas:
The Birth of Jesus

Christmas is that time of year when we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. We are familiar with the expression, "Jesus is the reason for the season" and He is! in fact, Jesus is the reason for all seasons! Even as Jesus is God's Gift to the world, Scripture tells us gifts were brought for Him by wise men from the East. They had seen Jesus' star and came to pay homage to the King of the Jews.

Where is the He who has been born King of the Jews? For we have seen His star in the East and have come to worship Him. [Matthew 2:2, NKJV].

Jesus is the origin of salvation for mankind. We know He was born of a virgin called Mary. It was prophesied by Isaiah in the Old Testament and reiterated by Matthew in the New Testament.

Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel [Isaiah 7:14, KJV].

Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us. [Matthew 1:23, KJV].

Jesus is God, the Word made flesh and He came to reconcile man with God, to bring peace between man and God.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

The same was in the beginning with God.

3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

10 He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.

11 He came unto his own, and his own received him not.

12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God,

even to them that believe on his name:

13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but

    of God.

14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the

glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

[John 1:1-3, 10-14, KJV]

For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace." {Isaiah 9:6-7, KJV].

Jesus is the perfect sacrifice, being holy, having knew no sin.

The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God. [Luke 1:35, NIV]

Jesus was born to save the world; He is God's gift to the world!

"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." [John 3:16, KJV]

So, in all the merriment - the eating, drinking, sight-seeing, and the exchange of gifts, we must not lose sight of the essence of Christmas. It isn't about Santa Claus, it isn't a happy holiday. It's really all about Jesus.

Show love to someone the same way God showed His love to the world, by preaching the Gospel of Jesus, letting someone know that there is no better time to become a Christian than now. Now is the time of salvation!

VERSE 1
O holy night the stars are brightly shining
It is the night of our dear Saviour’s birth
Long lay the world in sin and error pining
Till He appeared and the soul felt its worth
A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices
For yonder breaks
A new and glorious morn

CHORUS 1
Fall on your knees
O hear the angel voices
O night divine
O night when Christ was born

O night divine

O night, O night divine

VERSE 2
Truly He taught us to love one another
His law is love and His gospel is peace
Chains He shall break for the slave is our brother
And in His Name all oppression shall cease
Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus raise we
Let all within us

Praise His holy Name

CHORUS 2
Christ is the Lord
O praise His Name forever
His power and glory
Evermore proclaim
His power and glory
Evermore proclaim

O Holy Night
